NMC OSCE Preparation Course for Adult Nurses in the UK
Prepare for your UK nursing journey with Global Alliance Academy
Are you an internationally educated nurse planning to join the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register?
Global Alliance Academy offers a structured preparation programme for international nurses who need to prepare for the OET, NMC Computer-Based Test (CBT) and NMC Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
Our programme is designed to help you prepare for the different stages of the NMC registration journey, with the option to complete your English and CBT preparation online before travelling to the UK, or complete the full preparation programme in the UK.
What Is the NMC OSCE for Adult Nurses?
The NMC Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a practical assessment used by the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as part of its Test of Competence for eligible internationally educated nurses and other applicants who need to complete this route to registration.
The examination assesses whether candidates can demonstrate the clinical skills, professional judgement, communication and safe nursing practice expected of a nurse working in the UK.
CBT and OSCE: Understanding the Difference
The NMC Test of Competence includes two parts:
Computer-Based Test (CBT): Assesses relevant theoretical knowledge and clinical decision-making.
Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE): Assesses practical nursing skills, clinical reasoning, communication and professional practice through structured assessment stations.
Candidates must successfully complete both parts when required for their registration route. The NMC permits candidates to take the CBT and OSCE in either order, subject to the requirements of their application.
What Does the Adult Nursing OSCE Assess?
The Adult Nursing OSCE currently comprises 10 stations grouped into four linked APIE stations, four skills stations and two stations assessing professional values and behaviours and evidence-based practice.
The APIE process covers Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation. Skills stations assess practical clinical competencies, while the remaining stations examine professional conduct, decision-making and the application of evidence to nursing practice.
The NMC regularly reviews and updates assessment content. Candidates should always consult the latest official guidance and preparation materials before their examination.
Entry Requirements for the NMC Adult Nursing OSCE Preparation Course
Our NMC Adult Nursing OSCE preparation courses are designed for internationally educated nurses who are working towards registration with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and need to prepare for the practical Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).

Preparation may include guided clinical skills practice, simulated assessment scenarios, mock stations, feedback and revision of professional communication and patient safety principles.
Our programmes are designed to help candidates understand the assessment format, practise relevant skills and identify areas for further development before their official examination.

Visiting the UK for OSCE Preparation
Immigration permission depends on your circumstances, nationality and the activities you intend to undertake. Check the official UK government guidance before booking travel or paying course fees. Where applicable, a Standard Visitor may be permitted to take an OSCE examination or study an eligible course, subject to the relevant requirements.
GAA can provide course information for planning purposes but cannot guarantee a visa outcome. Candidates are responsible for checking their eligibility and obtaining the appropriate immigration permission.
FAQs
How long does NMC OSCE preparation take?
GAA currently offers a hybrid pathway with four weeks of face-to-face training in the UK and a ten-week face-to-face programme. The appropriate duration depends on the candidate’s starting point, preparation needs and course option. These are GAA programme durations, not a guarantee of the time required to pass the OSCE or complete NMC registration.
What is the difference between CBT and OSCE?
The CBT assesses theoretical knowledge through a computer-based examination. The OSCE assesses practical clinical skills, communication and professional practice through structured stations. Candidates who are required to complete the NMC Test of Competence must successfully complete both parts, although they may take them in either order.
Is the OSCE examination taken at GAA?
No. GAA provides preparation and training. Candidates must book and take their official OSCE at an NMC-approved test centre. Examination booking, fees, availability and travel arrangements should be confirmed separately.
Do I need to complete OET before attending?
Not necessarily. This depends on your English-language evidence, NMC application stage and chosen preparation option. Candidates should check the current NMC requirements and discuss their circumstances with GAA before enrolling. If English-language preparation is needed, ask about the available OET support.
What happens if I do not pass the OSCE?
You should review the official feedback and follow the NMC’s current resit and booking guidance. Additional preparation may help you work on identified areas for improvement, but further training cannot guarantee success at a subsequent attempt. Check the NMC website for current resit rules and fees.
How much does the NMC OSCE preparation course cost?
Course fees depend on the selected pathway and the services included. Contact GAA for the current price, payment arrangements and a breakdown of any exclusions, including examination fees, travel and accommodation. We recommend publishing the current course fee or a clearly defined starting price on this page.
Does completing the GAA course guarantee NMC registration?
No. GAA provides preparation support and does not guarantee an examination result, visa approval or NMC registration. Registration decisions are made by the NMC, and candidates must meet all applicable requirements.
Can international nurses travel to the UK for OSCE preparation?
Immigration eligibility depends on the individual’s circumstances and the permitted activities under the relevant route. Check GOV.UK guidance and ensure you have the appropriate permission before travelling. Taking an official OSCE and attending a preparation course are not necessarily treated identically for immigration purposes.
